I used to have a problem with overeating that caused me to put on a lot of extra pounds. My problem was that I'm lazy and it's much easier to eat bad food than good. It takes a lot of willpower to change the hard stuff so the best solution is to make the hard and complicated decisions simple.

I'm going to tell you about the 2 main reasons I managed to lose weight. It wasn't hypnosis for increased willpower or a hardcore exercise routine. The main reason I gained the weight in the first place were all the small choices. Should I fill a glass with milk and Oreos and swallow or should I go to the grocery store, pick up some fruits, go home and make a healthy smoothie. Yeah, I chose Oreos and milk, or something even worse, every single time.
Finally I got fed up (pun intended) with overeating. I knew that every time I could chose between easy and hard I'd go for easy. It's too difficult to change yourself but so much easier to change the rules. If I'd known it would be this easy I would have made the change years ago.
Everything I needed to change boils down to these 2 Easy Rules: Shop Healthy and Shop Less.
Shop healthy
To Shop Healthy I went over my diet. I like fast food and used to buy a meal every day. Going to the drive through and back took 20 minutes so I figured. What can I do with the same amount of time at home? I found a great cooking book with 20 minute recipes and now I always keep ingredients for a quick meal at hand.
Another thing I did was to lessen the snack craving was to make batches every one or two weeks. I've got a large freezer so space wasn't an issue but there are a lot of plastic containers perfect for a real homemade microwave meal.
Shop Less
Shop less every trip and shop less often. Both helped. I used to go to the store a couple of times a week and every time I went it I bought more food than I came for. By going less often, I bought less and ate less. And I didn't need to do any exercise. In fact I moved less and still lost weight.
I also shop less each time I go. I don't need a family special offer on chocolate, every week. If it's not in the kitchen it won't go in my stomach but if it's there it won't go to waste.
So there you have it. I'm lazy and can't be bothered to drive to and from the drive through every day. There's no calorie counting, no weighing the ingredients and adding it all up. I just eat when I'm hungry and won't bother to go for a candy run to the supermarket.
